AEWs Grand Slam: Australia was supposed to be a massive moment for the companys international expansion, but some fans who paid top dollar for premium seating feel completely ripped off.
The event is taking place at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, with ROH tapings happening before the main card begins. While excitement is high, frustrations are boiling over as fans claim they paid thousands for seats that ended up being nowhere near where they expected. One fan vented their frustration on Twitter, saying, Paid $2,000 for hard-cam side seats at #AEWGrandSlam just to get here and not be anywhere close. Nice.
The backlash isnt just about seat placement. AEW originally planned Grand Slam: Australia as a stadium show at Suncorp Stadium, but the company quietly downsized to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre due to low ticket sales. While thats understandable, what really set fans off is that those who paid premium stadium prices werent given refunds or adjusted pricing. Many are calling AEW out for taking their money without delivering what was promised.
Adding fuel to the fire, AEW President Tony Khan proudly hyped the events ticket sales and financial success, telling media that this was one of AEWs biggest international gates ever.
This is one of our biggest international events ever. Its one of our biggest gates in the history of AEW. Were really excited for that, Khan stated. Outside of Wembley Stadium in London, this is going to be, I believe, our biggest international live gate of all time.
Fans who dropped thousands on seats they didnt actually get arent exactly feeling the excitement. While AEW celebrates the financial win, the people who spent their hard-earned money on this event are feeling disrespected.
Was AEW wrong to handle the seating situation this way? Should the company have offered refunds or price adjustments? Let us know what you think in the comments.
