In the last few hours, the tennis world has been shocked by the news of Jannik Sinner's three-month suspension. The world No.1 who has dominated the men's tour for the past twelve months alongside Carlos Alcaraz will have to sit out until May 4, just in time to be able to participate in the Rome Masters 1000 in front of his fans.

After a case that lasted almost a year, the Italian ace decided to negotiate with WADA to avoid going to trial (the hearing before the CAS in Lausanne was supposed to take place on 16 and 17 April). The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria risked a suspension of one to two years, which would have been a truly gigantic damage if we consider that the involuntary nature of his positivity has been ascertained.

The 3-time Grand Slam champion is forced to pay for the faults of some members of his team - Giacomo Naldi and Umberto Ferrara - who were removed from Jannik's team when this case was made known to the whole world.

Bartoli onSinner's suspension

The reactions to this newshave been of different kinds, as it was quite reasonable to expect in the face of a controversy that has split the world of tennis and sport in general.

Speaking on 'RMC Sport', former WTA star Marion Bartoli admitted that this agreement between the parties does not convince her much: "Sinner had this unbearable stress for almost a year and there were rumors that he would be suspended for at least a year. In the first instance it was ascertained that his doping was totally involuntary, but Jannik should have suffered a suspension for negligence. According to case law, I understand that the penalty for this type of infringement is more than three months."

Bartoli continued: "If we consider that the president of the ATP is Italian, it seems to me that they are making fun of us. I have no intention of advancing strange theories, but I must confess that this plea bargain leaves me with several doubts."

The Italian champion will miss four Masters 1000 because of this ban.
