Jasmine Paolini says she wants to put 2024 behind her and "write a new story" but without putting many expectations on herself.

Last year, the 29-year-old stunningly won the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai despite entering the tournament on a three-match losing streak and being considered all but a title favorite.

From that moment on, the Itaian's dream run started and she went on to make two Grand Slam finals - reach a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world - and also debut at the WTA Finals.

Before 2024, Paolini was a WTA-level player but she didn't have any significant results nor she was someone considered a contender for the biggest titles.

So far in 2025, the late bloomer hasn't had much success - she went 3-1 at the United Cup - lost in the Australian Open third round - and also exited last week's Doha tournament in the round-of-16.

But this week, Dubai - where it all started for the 29-year-old - is taking place so it might be an opportunity for the world No. 4 to kickstart her season.

Paolini: I'm telling myself that 2025 is a completely different story...

Im trying to tell myself that this year its a different story, completely different, the 2024 Wimbledon runner said in Dubai.

We have to write a new story, not think too much of the past. I mean you have to look at the results you did to give you confidence as you go to the new season, but its a new year.

Im trying to focus on the work, to tell myself that everything can happen in tennis.

"You have to keep going and going, try to do good things. Trying also to keep expectations low.

But with expectations, of course, I think its tougher for me.

Meanwhile, Paolini started her Dubai title defense with a 6-2 7-5 win over Eva Lys.
