News arose today that stemmed from Fightfuls Discord on frustrations currently in the womens locker room in regards to booking. When responding to this, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful explained that the frustrations arent as bad as they were from the 2022 Womens Royal Rumble. Sapp has provided more information from that time period.
The 2022 Womens Royal Rumble was won by a returning Ronda Rousey. She returned to the company after two and a half years in this match, entered in at number 28, eliminated four women and won after lasting 10 minutes. However, this was not the early plan by one Vince McMahon.
McMahon wanted something so crazy and that was for Rousey to return and eliminate all 29 other women from the match all by herself. According to Fightful, McMahon wanted to do this because Rousey already had a full time advanced schedule for the full 2022 year.
A note from this idea was that widely respected producer, TJ Wilson, walked away for a period of time ahead of that Royal Rumble. One of the reasons Fightful was given was that the vision Vince McMahon had was so off the wall, that there was trouble coexisting with it. They were also told that this and other things led to Wilson taking time away. WWE had to call in Fit Finlay to help produce the match.
In addition, the surprises in the match were told to get in and get out. Some names including: Summer Rae, Sarah Logan, Cameron, Kelly Kelly, Melina, Molly Holly and Ivory all spent a minute or under in the match. Surprises which did not take place as they turned the opportunity down would have been The IIconics and Nia Jax. This was shortly after they were released. One did state that they wouldnt return for the Rumble because Wilson was not producing it.
