The way Jannik Sinner's doping case was handled did not please most players and insiders. Many people have complained about the lack of transparency of the authorities, who only made this case public many months after it began (in March 2024).
In addition, several players consider it very strange that the former world number 1 was revoked the provisional suspension so quickly. Before the ITIA verdict was issued just before the start of the 2024 US Open, the Italian ace was able to continue playing without any problems and achieved impressive results in that time frame.
Following WADA's decision to appeal against the acquittal, the 3-time Grand Slam champion was due to go to trial before the CAS in Lausanne on April 16 and 17.
The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria risked suffering a suspension of one to two years, which would have had truly significant consequences for his career.
Through an announcement released last Saturday, it was communicated to the whole world that Jannik and WADA had reached an agreement and that the Italian would be suspended for three months (from February 9 to May 4).
Sinner will miss six tournaments in this period, but he will be able to participate in the Rome Masters 1000 in front of his home fans and especially in the French Open.
Mouratogloutalks about Sinner
Through his official Instagram profile, top coach Patrick Mouratoglou expressed some very interesting opinions on this case. Serena Williams' former coach does not like the way this situation has been handled, although he is firmly convinced of Jannik's innocence.
"I don't think he doped himself. I know his mentality and he's a very good guy, so I never thought he wanted to cheat," Patrick said.
"Secondly, when such low values of a banned substance are found, in 90% of cases it means that it is accidental contamination. Sinner is clearly a victim" he concluded.
The world No.1 took a few days off in Dubai after the announcement shocked the world.
