When LIV Golf arrived on the golf scene, it started furiously, offering huge sums of money to golfers who were part of the PGA Tour. Although they also 'targeted' those with a slightly lower ranking, the biggest accent was on the PGA stars. Many of them did not resist such offers, deciding to join LIV Golf.
However, there were also loyal ones who emphasized prestige and tradition rather than money. So is Jason Day.
The Australian golfer revealed that his agent has spoken to important figures at LIV Golf. Day, however, admits that joining LIV was never an option he considered.
"I mean I never really even thought of leaving about leaving to be honest.
It's just that, I remember my agent coming to me and saying, 'Hey, I'm going to have a chat with LIV.'
Because obviously he had players over there as well. And he goes, 'I'm just going to go and have a chat to them, you don't have to be involved.'"- he said, as quoted by Golf Magic.
Jason Day talks about business side
Despite the fact that Jason Day was closed for joining the controversial Tour, he was happy that someone was interested in him, looking at things from a business point of view. Day probably wanted to know how much money this Tour offers him, and what they have at their disposal.
"And I said, I'd prefer not to be involved but it's always nice to be able to know and see if there's any like, as a business sense, it's nice to be able to go and find out like what the potential could be and weigh those potentials."
The experienced golfer pointed out that in his case, they made his decision even easier. However, he admits that the agent's job is to listen to various offers that come from all sides, not only from LIV, but also from various sponsors.
The Australian believes that his injuries were the reason why LIV officials did not want to continue negotiations.
