The Rocks return to SmackDown tonight is more than just a surpriseits the stage for a massive WrestleMania 42 announcement.
According to PWInsider, The Final Boss will officially reveal that WrestleMania 42 will take place at the Superdome in New Orleans next year.
While theres speculation that The Rocks role tonight could extend beyond the announcement, PWInsider confirms that the New Orleans reveal is 100% happening. WWE has been teasing that The Rock has a big beautiful gift for the city, and now we know exactly what that means.
The timing of his appearance wasnt part of WWEs long-term plans either. Reports indicate that his involvement was locked in just last night, forcing the company to scramble and shift SmackDowns entire layout to accommodate his return.
Major matches, including Naomi vs. Liv Morgan and a six-man tag featuring Cody Rhodes, Damian Priest, Braun Strowman, Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, and Tama Tonga, were scrapped to make room for The Rocks segment.
Additionally, WWE is putting together a post-SmackDown press conference, which is expected to stream online. While the details of that presser are still unfolding, The Rocks involvement seems like a given.
