The Rock made his presence felt during the February 21st episode of WWE SmackDown, where he had a lengthy promo segment with Cody Rhodes. However, his segment has been getting mixed responses from fans and critics alike and now WWE has been called out for poorly booking The Rock.
During the segment, The Rock revealed that after their intense feud last year, he and Cody Rhodes became good friends and have shared some great moments together. He then stated that he wants the current Undisputed WWE Champion to be his champion and to give him his soul.
On a recent episode of BroDown on Backstage Pass, former WWE head writer Vince Russo revealed his thoughts on The Rocks promo from SmackDown. The former WWE head writer criticized the companys handling of one of its biggest stars.
Russo questioned WWEs approach, showing disbelief that they could make The Rock mean absolutely nothing despite his status. Having worked closely with him for years, he was surprised by the way the segment was presented.
Vince Russo went on to call it the worst in-ring promo he had ever seen from The Rock. However, he did not blame The Final Boss for the way it played out. Instead, he pointed to the storyline and overall direction, stating that the subject matter and angle were the real issues.
The Rocks appearance has also led to a ton of changes to WWEs creative plans and now WrestleMania 41 is in flux. After all, The Rock made it clear he doesnt necessarily need a match with Cody Rhodes again despite their longstanding feud.
As WWE continues to figure out The Rocks role, fans are left questioning whether the company can adjust and give the Hollywood megastar a storyline that matches his legacy. With WrestleMania 41 on the horizon, it remains to be seen what WWE has in store for The Great One.
