Many insiders are already sure that Joao Fonseca will join Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, forming a new trio destined to dominate men's tennis for the next 10-15 years. Although he is only 18 years old, the Brazilian ace has already shown flashes of impressive talent and has recently won the first ATP title of his career in Buenos Aires.

Joao's rise has been truly incredible in recent months, considering that he won the Next Gen ATP Finals in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2024, the Canberra Challenger in early 2025 and shocked the world at the Australian Open by eliminating a Top 10 player like Andrey Rublev in the first round.
Fonseca still has a lot to improve in many ways and does not have the consistency of a top player, as certified by his premature elimination in the first round in Rio de Janeiro after the sensational victory in Baires the previous week.
According to former WTA star Andrea Petkovic, the Brazilian star is set to enter the Top 20 of the ATP ranking as early as the end of 2025.
Querrey praises Fonseca
Meanwhile, Fonseca has been given a wild card to play the Indian Wells Masters 1000 early next month and is set to play his best tennis at one of the most prestigious events on the ATP calendar.

On the latest edition of the 'Nothing Major' podcast, former American ace Sam Querrey was asked if Joao can already compete with Sinner and Alcaraz: I think he is. Maybe not right away but he is not far off.
If you just watch him play tennis, just the eyeball test says that he is so good. The way he moves around the court. The way he hits the ball backhand and forehand. He can absolutely rip it.
He is passionate about the way he plays. He is just on a tear right now. He is flying high, he is so fun to watch. He is my favorite player to watch play tennis right now, I love watching him play. Im excited to tune in and see him play for the rest of his life!
