Phil Mickelson is a man who left a huge mark on the golf scene with his great performances, but a few years ago with controversial decisions. Namely, the experienced golfer left the PGA Tour and decided to become part of the Saudi project, LIV Golf. Although he was a favorite among golf fans for years, many people changed their image of him after that, believing that he is a man who is not interested in prestige and tradition.

Although he still competes in tournaments, the 54-year-old feels that his body can hardly tolerate the efforts.

Speaking to Golf Digest Australia, the famous golfer revealed how important fitness is to a golfer's career. Although he didn't care too much about it at the beginning of his career, Tiger Woods changed his thinking and understanding.

"I do wish I had dove in and learned more about nutrition. When I started playing golf though fitness wasn't even an issue. It wasn't until Tiger [Woods] came along- he was years behind me-that it really got to be accepted and then got to grow."- he said, as quoted by Macon.

Phil Mickelson on nutrition

Tiger Woods is a golfer who has always paid attention to every aspect of his game, so it's no wonder he became such a big star. The 48-year-old golfer was aware that if he wanted to become one of the best, it was necessary to put emphasis on every aspect of the game, but also take care of his body.

Mickelson contacted a trainer in 2003 and began working with him with the aim of extending his career. However, the experienced golfer stresses that he would have liked to learn more about nutrition, with focus on that.

"When I started working out with my trainer in 2003, 21 years ago, we went into it with the idea of elongating my career rather than trying to perform great for a short period of time... I wish I had dived in a little bit more on nutrition-I didn't. I don't think it would have led to my winning more or anything, but it sure would have been nice to be accountable for my health at a younger age."
