Liverpool are aiming to further stretch their already impressive lead at the summit of the Premier League table on Wednesday evening when they welcome Newcastle United to Anfield.

The Reds moved 11 points clear of title challengers Arsenal at the weekend following a convincing 2-0 win over reigning champions Manchester City and with the Gunners travelling to Nottingham Forest midweek, Arne Slot's side could create an even larger gap between themselves and the north London outfit.

Liverpool will also be aiming to dent Newcastle's confidence ahead of next month's Carabao Cup final meeting between the sides, with the Magpies having already failed to beat the Merseysiders in any competition since 2015.

Here is how Liverpool could line up for a crucial encounter.

GK: Alisson - The Brazilian will have been surprised with just how infrequently he was called upon at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon. He's likely to be busier against a Newcastle team in fine attacking form.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold - Alexander-Arnold lost an eye-watering 12 duels against Man City despite Liverpool keeping a clean sheet. He simply couldn't handle Jeremy Doku's agility and will have to make significant improvements against fellow Scouser Anthony Gordon.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - The Frenchman was imperious at the weekend against the Erling Haaland-less Cityzens and will need to deliver a similar level of assurance up against the in-form Alexander Isak. The Swede has scored on his previous two trips to Anfield.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - Van Dijk has called on his teammates and Liverpool supporters to make Anfield a "horrible" place as the Reds hunt down a second Premier League title, starting with Wednesday's clash against the Magpies.

LB: Kostas Tsimikas - Andy Robertson started Liverpool's last four league games in the space of just 11 days and could be offered a rest following some shaky displays.

DM: Ryan Gravenberch - Newcastle boast a formidable midfield containing Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, with Liverpool's engine room operators needing to be on high alert to win the battle in the centre of the park.

DM: Alexis Mac Allister - Mac Allister is a minor doubt for Wednesday after suffering bruises to his face at the Etihad, but Slot has revealed the Argentinian midfielder should feature.

RW: Mohamed Salah - The peerless Egyptian continues to stupefy audiences up and down the country every single week, with his goal and assist at the Etihad taking his Premier League tally to 41 goal contributions this term.

AM: Dominik Szoboszlai - Szoboszlai also produced a goal and assist in Manchester as he continues to develop into a devastating attacking midfield presence. For all his technical quality, it's arguably his work ethic that most impresses.

LW: Cody Gakpo - Gakpo returned from injury against Man City, albeit he could only make a cameo from the bench. He should return to the XI on Wednesday and will be aiming to pick up from where he left off.

ST: Luis Diaz - Having filled in on the left-hand side during Gakpo's absence, Diaz could be restored to his new-look number nine role on Wednesday. The indefatigable Colombian is always a tricky customer no matter where he features.
