Modern golf is quite different from the one we used to watch. It is natural for any sport, including golf, to undergo a transformation from year to year. However, such a transformation also means that golfers are becoming much stricter in many aspects, striving for perfection. Is finding perfection in the game a recipe for success and victory? It doesnt seem so.

If the words of John Daly, the legendary golfer, are to be believed, todays golfers could follow the example of him and some of his older colleagues, if they want to be great at what they do. In one of the episodes of the Like a Farmer podcast, the famous golf figure pointed out that todays golfers are exaggerating in many aspects, putting an emphasis on the gym.

I think the hardcore working out is going to hurt these guys,-he said, as quoted by Golf.com, continuing; "and they wont be playing when theyre 55, 60 years old.

The experienced golfer stressed during the podcast that Tiger Woods was an important figure in turning a new chapter in the history of golf, considering that many golfers followed him, especially when it comes to strength training and fitness training. John believes that excessive training is not a solution, in fact, it can create even bigger problems.

"I think working out," Daly said.

"I think a lot of guys lose their flexibility and so many guys are mechanical, too, they don't have a lot. That means their body's not equipped to take the club back as far as I can or not fortunate to be as flexible as I can, but they work strenuously on the game and getting their swing into exactly the way they want it, but I think working out hurts a lot of these guys, I really do.

Is that true?

Opinions vary on this: While some feel that training is key, no matter what, others explain that overtraining can actually have negative effects on an individual's body, especially those in development.

John Daly shared his routine, saying that it involved just practicing with a wedge club and hitting the ball short all day.

He admits that things used to be different, until Tiger came along. Namely, golfers often went out to eat, have a few drinks, practice and then drink alcohol. At least that's what Daly says.

However, golf looks completely different now, and much credit can be given to Tiger Woods, who has truly become a revolutionary factor in the sport.
