Matteo Berrettini suggests he doesn't really have a problem with the balls becoming slower but "the real issue" is that the balls used in tournaments are changing weekly.

For the past two years, some of the biggest ATP and WTA players have been very critical and outspoken about the balls used on the Tour, with some even alleging that they cause injuries.
Daniil Medvedev - one of the biggest critics of the Dunlop balls - recently said that because of "very slow balls and courts" he can't play his game anymore and that's why he hasn't had much success over the last year.
In early February, Taylor Fritz described the balls used in Australia as "the deadest ever" and blamed them for an oblique injury.
Addressing the issue, Berrettini confirmed that balls are slower than they used to be but also suggested that it would be fine if the same type of ball was used for one stretch.
Berrettini: The consistency is the key... Let's play with one ball on one surface
I feel like the balls are getting slower and slower all the time. But at the same time whats most important for us, I think, is consistency, the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up told Reem Abulleil of The National.

We have to try with the same ball, at least on the same surface. We play on clay, we play with the same ball and the quality of the ball is really important, so for our injuries, and I know a lot about that, its really important.
I personally like a lot the Dunlop balls, I think theyre the best. But again, everybody has different opinions.
