Matt and Jeff Hardy made their long-awaited WWE NXT return on February 25, but while many fans assumed this was just a stepping stone to an eventual main roster comeback, a new report suggests otherwise.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as of February 26, there have been no official discussions within WWE regarding bringing the legendary duo back to RAW or SmackDown.
Regarding rumors of the Hardys on the main roster, we were told on 2/26: From fact, it has not yet been discussed. Will someone pitch, Hey, why not use the Hardys in this situation? That is a possibility. But as of a few hours ago, the answer is no.
This contradicts previous reports suggesting that WWE was already setting the stage for a main roster storyline for the Hardy Boyz later this spring or summer. The company even released a new Hardy Boyz t-shirt ahead of their NXT return, fueling speculation that bigger plans were in motion.
During their first WWE match in years on NXT, Matt and Jeff faced off against the No Quarter Catch Crew, making an instant impact. Their return was met with major excitement, and the idea of them getting a final main roster run seemed like a logical next step. However, if Meltzers report is to be believed, nothing is set in stone, and WWE creative has yet to formally discuss their long-term future.
With NXT continuing its crossover with TNA, theres still plenty of room for the Hardys to play a role in the WWE landscape. The question is, will Triple H and the creative team eventually pull the trigger on a full-fledged Hardy Boyz revival on RAW or SmackDown?
