Carmella is officially done with WWEat least for now. While many assumed she would make a return following her maternity leave, the company decided not to freeze her contract, allowing it to expire instead.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had the option to extend Carmellas deal due to her time off but ultimately chose not to. They had the right to freeze her contract due to time off, but instead decided against doing so, Meltzer reported.
The move became official when Carmella (real name Leah Van Dale, 37) was quietly shifted to the Alumni Section on WWEs website. Additionally, she removed the Carmella name from her social media handles, opting to use her real name insteadanother clear sign shes moving on from WWE for now.
Carmella has been battling drop foot since giving birth to her son Dimitri Paul Polinsky with husband Corey Graves. Shes also dealing with two herniated discs in her back, making an in-ring comeback even more uncertain.
While her last match was in March 2023, her return was short-lived, lasting just six weeks before she was sidelined again. Sean Ross Sapp recently weighed in on her WWE status during a Fightful Select Q&A, stating: I think theres a possibility that one day she could end up back in WWE. I know they had done a couple years for her on maternity leave, and I dont know what went into allowing her to expire, but it didnt look like she was going to be back anytime soon.
Despite her uncertain future in wrestling, Carmella has remained vocal about her health struggles. She recently posted a photo outside an MRI room with the caption, Back at it trying to get some answers for this foot.
