Highsmith was filled with positive emotions, probably not expecting this outcome. The 24-year-old admitted that winning was not his first thought, focusing primarily on his game. However, realizing that he had a chance for an incredible feat, he began to think about how everything would look like.
"Obviously winning was the last thing on my mind. I was just trying to go out there and execute just shot after shot, and I was able to do that really well," said Highsmith, as quoted by France 24.
"I had kind of a feeling coming down the stretch, I was playing really good and had made no mistakes. I was like, maybe I would have a chance and started to get a little ahead of myself. But incredible to come out on top. I mean, it was so tough out there and I played the best round of my life for sure," he said.
