Rey Fenixs AEW Exit Sparks WWE Speculation with WrestleMania Tease

Insiders have been talking for weeks about AEW weighing the idea of releasing or allowing certain talent contracts to expire. I had heard for a while that within AEW, they had at least considered releasing or letting contracts lapse on a few talent that were not happy and wanted to go elsewhere. At one point, they considered Rey Fenix. They didnt end up doing that, Sean Ross Sapp reported. Despite that decision, it now seems AEW has moved on from Fenix entirely.

Chris Featherstone previously reported that discussions between Tony Khan and Fenix about his release were in progress. AEW sources have informed me that negotiations between Tony Khan and Rey Fenix to end Fenixs tenure with the company are progressing, and resolution is expected to happen soon. I was also informed that Tony Khan has been heavily advised to put an end to this soon regarding Fenixs holding period, Featherstone revealed.

Now, WWE seems to be circling. According to Dave Meltzer, WWE has already been making plans in case Fenix becomes available. PWInsider took things even further, stating, Its all but certain hes WWE bound.

And in the latest twist, WrestleVotes has added even more fuel to the fire. The outlet spoke with a WWE source who confirmed that backstage, the belief is Fenix will be joining WWE sooner rather than later. Spoke with a WWE source regarding the Rey Fenix news making the rounds. With him being free and clear, the expectation backstage is that he joins WWE sooner rather than later. Source added they wouldnt be surprised if Fenix ends up on the WM card but noted theres no exact timeline in place.

Fenixs next move remains a mystery, but all signs point to WWE. With his brother Penta already in the company, a reunion could be on the horizon. Whether he debuts in NXT, jumps straight to the main roster, or even makes a surprise WrestleMania appearance, fans are keeping a close eye on what happens next.
