Skye Blue isnt stepping back into an AEW ring anytime soon, despite earlier reports suggesting she was closer to a comeback. After months on the sidelines due to a broken ankle, she confirmed in a recent signing that she is not medically cleared and is still dealing with serious issues.
Blue suffered the injury on July 20, 2024, during an AEW Collision match against Hikaru Shida, when a mistimed suicide dive led to a rough landing. AEW initially feared shed be out until Spring 2025, and while rumors of an early return recently made the rounds, Blue herself just shut those down.
During a Highspot Live Signing, she was asked if she had been cleared to compete, and she didnt hold back. I am not cleared. My ankle is really f**ed up,* she said bluntly. At the end of the event, when the host said he looked forward to seeing her back in action, she replied, Hopefully sooner rather than later.
She also joked that if she tried to wrestle now, Id get in trouble for doing so.
Blue underwent surgery last year and even made a brief on-screen appearance at AEW All Out 2024 while on crutches. She later traveled to AEW Grand Slam in Australia to support her boyfriend, Kyle Fletcher, showing shes still staying close to the wrestling scene despite her injury.
Fightful Select previously reported that Blue had told fans at Toyhio that she had been medically cleared, but as it turns out, being cleared by a personal doctor and being cleared by AEW are two different things. This means that while her recovery is progressing, AEWs medical team has not given her the green light to return to the ring.
AEW has yet to announce any creative plans for her return, and as of now, theres no official timeline for when shell be back in action.
Should AEW bring Skye Blue back in a non-wrestling role while she recovers, or should she stay out until shes 100% ready? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
