Jerzy Janowicz is not afraid to reveal his true feelings and thoughts even in post-tennis life as the former Polish star thinks Hubert Hurkacz hiring Nicolas Massu is "one of the worst" moves that the 2023 Shanghai Masters champion could have made.

After only winning one ATP 250 title in Estoril last year and not doing that well on the biggest stage, the top-ranked Polish male tennis player decided to end his partnership with his long-time coach Craig Boynton.

Then, the Pole - who plummeted to No. 22 in the world - hired Massu and Ivan Lendl for 2025.

In the past, the Chilean tennis star worked with Dominic Thiem and guided the Austrian to his lone Grand Slam title at the 2020 US Open champion.

When it comes to Lendl, his resume is well-documented and what he was able to do with Andy Murray.

Janowicz, who played his last tennis match in 2022 and has turned to pro padel in the last couple of years, was asked to address Hurkacz's coaching moves.

"Ivan Lendl, absolutely - I think it's a good move. As for Nicolas Massu, I think it's one of the worse ideas," the former world No. 14 told Sport.pl.

Janowicz explains why he doesn't think Massu is a good fit for Hurkacz

In the former Polish tennis player's mind, the current Polish No. 1 needs a coach with a completely different strategy.

"Looking at how he played, what technique and tactics he used, it doesn't suit Hubert at all," the 2013 Wimbledon semifinalist explained.

"He needs someone who will teach him to regularly reach for offensive tennis. And finally make this style comfortable for him, he won't be afraid of it. Because what Hubert can't do very well and doesn't want to do is offensive play. And he needs it very much.

"He can do it. I don't understand why it's so hard for him to switch from this deep defense and counterattack play to a more offensive one."

Meanwhile, Hurkacz hasn't had a strong 2025 season so far as he is only 6-6.

Apart from a semifinal result in Rotterdam, the former world No. 6 has been inconsistent and is still searching for his best game.
