On March 2, 1985, Leilani Kai walked into Baltimore as the WWF Ladies Champion. She defended against the woman she won the belt from, Wendi Richter.

Kai states

40 years ago today, I defended the WWF Ladies Title vs Wendi Richter in Baltimore. Seeing the lineup, I knew I was part of something. I wrestled like my life depended on it. I studied every card & understood my role. That night, I was the champion and I wrestled like it.

A bit of history during this time, Kai had defeated Richter for the championship in February of 1985. This made her the third official woman to ever hold the belt. She defended successfully against Richter that night in Baltimore and held the gold for 40 days. Richter won the title back at WrestleMania I in late March.

This was Kais only title reign during her career. She is a former two-time WWF Ladies Tag Team Champion with Judy Martin. Kai did return in 1994 briefly and challenged Alundra Blayze for the title at WrestleMania X.
