Daniil Medvedev has not come out of the crisis, although his recent performances in Doha and Dubai lead us to be more optimistic for the rest of his season. The Russian ace was playing very well in the prestigious ATP 500 in Qatar, but food poisoning prevented him from being at his best during his quarterfinal match against Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The former world No.1 recovered in time for the Dubai ATP 500, where he reached the quarterfinals without too many problems by putting in good performances against fearsome opponents. The champion from Moscow was comfortably ahead by a set and a break against Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals, but ended up losing in the third set against the Dutch player after wasting four match points.
The 2021 US Open champion was really frustrated at the end of that challenge, but he knows that he has to be patient and that the first positive signs are starting to be seen after a truly terrible period.
Vesnina opens up on Medvedev
Daniil will be one of the protagonists of the 'BNP Paribas Open' in Indian Wells, an event in which he has achieved very brilliant results in the last two editions. Although he reached the final in both 2023 and 2024 (always beaten by Carlitos Alcaraz), the Russian has always said that he doesn't really like Indian Wells courts because they are too slow.

Medvedev could benefit from the fact that starting in 2025 tournament organizers have decided to change the surface to make it more similar to that of the Miami Open and the US Open (two tournaments that the Russian has won during his career).
In a recent interview with 'Championat', former world number 13 Elena Vesnina analyzed Medvedev's chances in the first Masters 1000 of the 2025 season: "He is trying in every way to find himself. He can play even better in Indian Wells thanks to the change of surface, as he has always said that the courts were too slow.
Daniil's game seems to be able to adapt well to the new conditions, but it will depend a lot on his attitude."
