But after he was spotted holding to his wrist and abruptly ending a practice session at the start of this week, concerns regarding his participation in the desert instantly arose.

Now, Kyrgios has clarified what exactly what happened on the practice court.

"Yeah actualy, I was feeling great. I was practicing for an hour, and the second last point, actually felt my wrist a little bit," the 29-year-old said on Tennis Channel.

"So, you know, it seems to be that point where I can't really catch a break at the moment with my body, but it's just things you have to navigate. I'll do everything I can to be ready."

Kyrgios is schedule to face qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp today, with the winner taking on Novak Djokovic in round two.

Kyrgios: Now I understand Juan Martin del Potro, Dominic Thiem and Kei Nishikori.

Over the last decade, a couple of Grand Slam champions and top-10 players had to surgically repair their wrists.

And neither of them was the same after the surgery.

While Kyrgios underlined in his interview that he still wants to "make some noise," he also noted that he is only know aware of how tough it is to return after major wrist issues.

"Del Potro, Thiem, and Nishikori... it takes time to get back at that level that you once were," the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up added.

"And you may not ever get there, that's why Thiem was a Grand Slam champion and wasn't really able to scratch the surface coming back. So I understand the challenge that was in front of me."
