Anthony Davis has spoken honestly about the historic trade that sent him to the Dallas Mavericks and revealed his thoughts with hindsight.
At the end of the day its a business, and I understand that, Davis told Dana Larson on MavsTV. I was just more shocked cause I never knew that man, why would they trade me? Im pretty sure on the other side for Luka [Doncic] as well, Both of us probably never thought wed get traded unless we asked.
AD went on to say how the team environment has helped him acclimatise to the cross-country move.
Im focused on the Mavs, Davis continued. What helps me is being around the guys, being around the team. Thats why when we got traded, I got here me and Max [Christie] and I was like we need to get in the building and meet the team. I knew my family wasnt going to come down here right away. When youre alone, youre in a hotel, you start thinking, so many thoughts and things like that. Being around the team helps speed up the process of forgetting about the past.
He also wanted to remind fans that although its disappointing to lose the face of the franchise, hes ready to put in the work and is no slouch himself.
I know the whole city was down because of the Luka [Doncic] thing, Davis said. At the same time, I know who I am as a player. Im top-75 of all time. I just wanted to let the Dallas fans know. Im here. I got yall. Im here now. I know you lost a superstar in Luka but you also gained a superstar in myself.
In his very first game for Dallas, AD suffered a left adductor strain, but the team said recently he has beencleared for more dynamic on-court movements and will be evaluated weekly with relevant updates to their status provided, as appropriate.
