Rory McIlroy is determined to make some changes down the line, unhappy with his equipment during the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Northern Irish golfer has revealed that he will return to the original TaylorMade driver, at least until the Masters. Before the start of the last tournament, Rory made a lot of changes, changing the driver, along with changes in the settings of the wedge set.

The experienced golfer reflected on Saturday in particular, saying that he returned to familiar things. It turns out that Rory made the wrong decision.

"I led strokes gained: off the tee in both Pebble and Torrey, so it was a really good idea to change," McIlroy said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

"[Saturday], I lost strokes off the tee, which is the first time I've done that in a long time. Yeah, just went back to what was familiar and what's comfortable.

I tried new woods for the first three days, didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to. So, yeah, I went back to my old stuff. Driver, fairway wood, everything."

Rory McIlroy explains his decision

McIlroy explained that he would normally use a three-wood that goes about 285-290 yards, but players who hit shorter than him with a driver were able to reach 300-310 yards. He felt he was at a disadvantage, depending on the course.

He tried a mini driver last year, but wasn't comfortable with it, so he started using stronger three-woods. His Qi35 tri-wood now goes 300-305 yards in the air, which suits him.

This great golfer added that the four-wood covers the difference between the three-wood and the driver, and the three-iron replaces the five-wood. This gives him more options off the tee, along with more flexibility in his game, especially as he is comfortable with wedges for three-quarter power shots.

The upcoming tournaments will show whether such a move was really necessary.
