The numbers are in, and Queen of the Ring didnt exactly set the box office on fire this weekend.
According to Box Office Mojo, the womens wrestling film pulled in $380,000 from a limited release in 825 theaters across the U.S.not exactly championship numbers.
For comparison, Mickey 17 led the weekend with $19.1 million, while Captain America: Brave New World followed with $8.5 million, and Last Breath landed at $4.2 million. Meanwhile, The Iron Claw, another wrestling-based film, debuted in December 2023 with a much wider 2,800-theater release and brought in $4.8 million in its opening weekendover ten times what Queen of the Ring made.
The film, based on the 2010 book by Jeff Leen, tells the story of wrestling pioneer Mildred Burke, played by Emily Bett Rickards. It also features wrestlers Kamille (June Byers), Toni Storm (Clara Mortensen), Trinity Fatu (Ethel Johnson), and Jim Cornette (Sam Mushnick). Executive producers include Jim Ross, and the film originally premiered at the Buffalo International Film Festival last fall.
Despite the underwhelming numbers, director Ash Avildsen made multiple appearances on AEW Revolution, urging fans to check out the movie. He was joined by Damaris Lewis (Babs Wingo) and Kelli Berglund (Nell Stewart) to give it one last promotional push.
With only a few more days left in theaters, it looks like Queen of the Ring will have to rely on streaming to find its audience.
