AEW Collision is getting a major shake-up this weekend, and its all thanks to March Madness.
Instead of its usual two-hour Saturday night broadcast, AEW is splitting Collision into two separate one-hour episodesone airing on Saturday, March 23 at 11 PM EST and the other on Sunday, March 24 at the same time.
The reason? TNTs commitment to the NCAA basketball tournament. Rather than preempting the show entirely, the network is testing a new approach by placing Collision right after the tournament games on both nights. The move gives AEW a prime lead-in from one of the biggest sporting events of the year, potentially boosting viewership.
Both episodes will be taped in Omaha on Wednesday, allowing AEW to avoid running a two-hour show in a late-night time slot where ratings would likely take a hit. Instead of airing a full show deep into the midnight hours, AEW is hoping to capitalize on the strong audience from the tournament games by airing right after the action wraps up.
While this strategy could pay off, AEW has struggled with fluctuating time slots before, and Sundays episode being outside of the usual schedule could be a challenge. If this move works, it could lead to more creative scheduling adjustments in the future.
