Caroline Garcia says she hasn't given up on her tennis dreams but is "not obsessed" about them anymore and just wants to enjoy this period of her career.

In late 2024, the 2022 WTA Finals winner wanted to share something with fans through a lengthy social media post. In her message, the Frenchwoman said she was "tired" of dealing with constant anxiety, panic attacks, and even depression, which were directly caused by the expectations and pressure she was placing on herself.

So far in 2025, Garcia is only 2-5 and it hasn't been a successful year so far. But when it comes to her mental state and well-being, she is doing fine. And one of the reasons behind that is the 31-year-old trying to find more joy in things on and off the court.

Garcia: I tried the harder way for so long and it was making me unhappy and depressed

In an interview with The National, the former world No. 4 said she used to be "goal-orientated" and focused on the titles and a good ranking. That approach helped her work hard even when she wasn't feeling like doing so but it was also impacting her mental health.

But also sometimes you have to understand you have to also listen to your body or to your mind. And sometimes too much is not always the answer and you have to see outside of the box and also take time for yourself, find balance," Garcia added.

And now it's where I am, it's like, 'OK, I tried the harder way for tennis for 10, 15 years.' It brought me great stuff, but at one point it was not working anymore and it was making me unhappy and depressed and all this stuff. So, I have to find my own way and I think that I'm on a good path.

Even if Garcia doesn't win a Grand Slam or reach the world No. 1 ranking, she would still finish with some very notable results as her accomplishments include winning a WTA 1000 and a WTA Finals title, as well as having been ranked inside the top-5.
