Jeff Cobb has the wrestling world talking, but the NJPW powerhouse isnt rushing to clear the air just yet.
After reports surfaced that WWE was showing strong interest in signing him, Cobb took to Twitter/X with a response that only added to the intrigue.
Geez guys relax! I just woke up and holy hell! Look at all these notifications! Cobb wrote. I guess I have some explaining to do. Well let me calm everyones nerves.. the rumors are in fact 100% TRUE. I will be eliminating Naito from the New Japan Cup LIVE TODAY! So tune in to njpwworld!
With that tongue-in-cheek response, Cobb immediately shut down the notion that he was confirming anything about a potential WWE move. Instead, he used the speculation to promote his upcoming New Japan Cup match against Tetsuya Naito.
But he wasnt done having fun with the situation.
A short time later, he followed up with another post: Ok ok ok, I made a vague post about rumors.. heres the real scoop.. I found a bad ass sandwich shop next to the goods gym in Osaka! Very tasty!
While Cobb isnt giving anything away, his playful approach to the rumors only fuels the conversation about his future. Fightful Select had reported that WWE was strongly interested in bringing Cobb in, with one source even claiming that his name was spotted on an internal roster. However, those reports remain unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, over in AEW, insiders say Cobb is not expected to be heading in that direction, leaving WWE as the most intriguing possibility should he decide to leave NJPW.
For now, Cobb is still focused on New Japan, but his cryptic tweets arent exactly putting the speculation to rest. Could he really be WWE-bound, or is he just having fun at the expense of the internet wrestling community?
