Despite competing at the highest level for many years and having all the necessary weapons to be a top player, Alexander Zverev has yet to win a Grand Slam title for a variety of reasons. Throughout his career, the German ace was often criticized for his poor ability to handle pressure in the decisive moments of the most prestigious events, which resulted in a too passive attitude on the court.

After the surprising elimination against Taylor Fritz at the 2024 US Open, Sascha realized that he absolutely had to intervene to correct his weaknesses and did a really excellent job in the latter part of last season.

The champion from Hamburg practiced with maximum intensity together with his team members and seemed more confident on the court, managing to find courageous solutions even in moments of greatest tension.

This hard work paid off, considering that Zverev won the Rolex Paris Masters in November 2024 and overtook Carlos Alcaraz in second place in the ATP rankings.

Alexander gained the necessary confidence to show up at the 2025 Australian Open with important ambitions and his run was simply perfect until the final, where he suffered a severe lesson from world number 1 Jannik Sinner.

That blow hurt Sascha a lot, who struggled to digest yet another disappointment and has achieved really mediocre results in the last month (including the premature elimination in Indian Wells).

Zverev analyzes his game

Although the Big 3 are no longer a factor on the men's tour given Novak Djokovic's decline the rise of young champions such as Sinner and Alcaraz has certainly complicated Zverev's plans to win a Major title.

Speaking on Tennis Channel, the German star analyzed his shots in detail: I think there are certain shots in my game which I still need to improve.

I still think Carlos and Jannik do things a lot better than me. I do believe that. I think there are certain things I can improve on.

I serve better than both of them probably, but I am 6ft 6. Carlos cant just grow six more inches. But there are certain things that they do better that I can improve and its not just something physical, like height."

He also added: Short high forehands is the number one thing we are working on every day for the past four or five months now. That is just one of the things, but I think that is the main focus.

When they get a high short ball the point is over, 95% of the time. Its either a winner or an error. With me the point continues.
