John Isner had a really great career for a player with his characteristics. The former American ace managed to play an effective and dangerous tennis for all top players despite his height did not allow him to compete with them from the baseline, but this did not prevent him from achieving really prestigious results.

'Long John' reached a best ranking of number 8 in the ATP ranking in the summer of 2018, the year he won his first and only Masters 1000 in Miami (in the last edition at Key Biscayne before moving to the Hard Rock Stadium from the following year).
Isner reached the final in Florida again in 2019 and hoped to achieve an incredible back-to-back, but could do nothing against a deluxe version of Roger Federer who won the last Masters 1000 of his legendary career.
Unlike other players with a height similar to his, John not only relied on his impressive serve - perhaps the best ever - but he also moved quite well and was consistent from baseline.
In the summer of 2022, the former champion from Greensboro became the first and only tennis player in history to break the 14,000 aces barrier.

Isner slams Karlovic
After finishing his professional career with 16 ATP singles titles, the American giant has remained connected to the world of tennis and is one of the hosts of the 'Nothing Major' podcast along with Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey.
On the latest edition of this podcast, former world number 8 was asked to reveal the worst doubles partner hes ever played with.
Isner did not shy away from this question and answered with extreme sincerity: Ivo Karlovic. I dont know how it came about. It was awful. It was an awful experience. The Australian Open, 2008 I am guessing.
Can you imagine how bad the returns were? I cant remember who we were playing or the score, I think we lost in straight sets. They werent like great players.
