Coach Conchita Martinez believes Mirra Andreeva has sky-high potential but reveals that she is constantly telling the 17-year-old that she must remain firmly with both feet on the ground and not get herself caught into thinking that she must win a Grand Slam as soon as possible.

Over the past month, the Russian has been absolutely outstanding and arguably the best player in women's tennis. After beating Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina en route to winning her first WTA 1000 title in Dubai and breaking into the top-10, the rising star beat the two giants again this week in Indian Wells.

Now that Andreeva is on the verge of landing back-to-back WTA 1000 titles, some are already tipping her to register a Grand Slam win this year.

Martinez: Andreeva can win multiple Grand Slams but she must remain on the current course

"She has no limits. If she stays patient, doesn't rush things, keeps learning without rushing into winning a Grand Slam too quickly, and always remains clear-headed, she can become a great player and win several Grand Slams. But, as I keep telling her, you have to keep your feet on the ground. As long as I'm here, I don't want to see her get a big head; that would be a serious mistake," the 1994 Wimbledon champion told L'Equipe.

So far, Andreeva's best Grand Slam result has been a semifinal showing at last year's French Open. At the start of 2025, the Russian reached the Australian Open round-of-16 before losing to Aryna Sabalenka.

Today, the 17-year-old will meet the Belarusian again - this time in the Indian Wells final. After beating Swiatek and Rybakina in back-to-back tournaments, the No. 9 seed definitely isn't lacking any confidence ahead of the Sabalenka match.

If Andreeva beats the top seed in the final in the desert, she will also be ranked at No. 6 in the world on Monday.
