The start of the 2025 season has once again shown how Carlos Alcaraz has not found yetthe necessary consistency to be able to dethrone his top rival Jannik Sinner. The current world No.3 has won one title at the start of the year the Rotterdam ATP 500 but has not been as brilliant in the other three tournaments he has played.

The Spanish ace's chances of being able to overtake the Italian at the top of the ATP ranking before his return in May passed mainly from the Indian Wells Masters 1000, where the 21-year-old from Murcia hoped to win his third title in a row.

The 4-time Grand Slam champion reached the semifinals without losing a single set and everyone thought that no one would stop him, instead a discontinuous performance cost him dearly against Jack Draper who is playing the best tennis of his young career.

Due to his untimely elimination in California, Carlitos would need to win all the tournaments he plays until May in order to dethrone Sinner.

The former world No.1 appeared very nervous and tense during his last match against Draper atIndian Wells and admitted that he was not calm, a factor that affected his performance especially in the first set.

Alcaraz is too discontinuous

The Spanish star hopes to shine already at the Miami Open, where he won the first Masters 1000 of his career three years ago.

For the moment, the main difference between Alcaraz and Sinner lies above all in consistency.

Taking into account only the last 52 weeks, it is possible to see that the Italian ace has collected 7530 points on hard courts. The 21-year-old Spaniard on the other hand collected only 1860 points, placing only seventh in this special standing behind Alexander Zverev (2nd), Jack Draper (3rd), Taylor Fritz (4th), Frances Tiafoe (5th) and Daniil Medvedev (6th).

The Spaniard absolutely needs to improve from this point of view if he doesn't want to stay behind his huge rival in the coming years.
