Joao Fonseca is taking the right steps to climb positions in the ATP rankingand become a top player as soon as possible. According to former WTA star Andrea Petkovic, the young Brazilian ace has a real chance of entering the Top 20 as early as the end of 2025 and considering the results achieved so far it does not seem an impossible goal.

The current world number 60 has already lifted three trophies at the start of the season: the Buenos Aires ATP 500, the Canberra Challenger and the Phoenix Challenger. His triumph in Arizona last Sunday takes on an even more special value, because it is a tournament full of dangerous players who were eliminated early in Indian Wells.

Fonseca continues to work hard

Joao was among the protagonists of the first Masters 1000 of the season in California where he passed the first round after a tough battle before surrendering quite clearly to Jack Draper in the next round.

A rather tough loss, mitigated by the fact that the young Englishman played at a stellar level throughout the tournament and won the first Masters 1000 of his career.

Fonseca on the other hand was not demoralized and returned to show excellent performances in Phoenix, lifting the trophy with full merit.

"This Challenger was very similar to an ATP 250, because there were many very strong players and it was not easy to go all the way," Fonseca pointed out in an interview with Gill Gross.

Joao also explained how he is trying to improve his game: "My attitude is to be aggressive on the court and I like to play that way, but I have to learn to be more solid in the decisive moments of matches. I'm figuring out how to make the right choice at certain times."

Despite being just 18 years old, the Brazilian star already has to live with considerable pressure. His compatriots consider him the worthy heir to Gustavo Kuerten and are ready to make him their new idol, while the rest of the world believes that he can become the main opponent of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
