Jack Draper showed what he is made ofin Indian Wells! The 23-year-old claimed his first Masters 1000 crown in the desert and brought home 1000 ATP points. Thus, Jack cracked the top-10 for the first time, becoming the fifth British player to achieve that.
Draper joined Greg Rusedski, Tim Henman, Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie on the exclusive list, securing his place in history as the 184th top-10 player since 1973. The Sutton native defends only160 ATP points between Miami and Roland Garros.
Thus, we should expect him in the top-5 very soon if he maintains this level, probably in two weeks after an early Miami Open loss a year ago!
Jack did not compete at his best between March and June last year, collecting only five wins between Miami and Roland Garros. Competing in Stuttgart on grass as world no. 40, a left-handedlifted a trophy and achieved more than in the previous three months.
He fell to Carlos Alcaraz at Queen's and experienced an early defeat at Wimbledon. The Briton reached the Cincinnati Masters quarter-final and raised his level at the US Open, notching his first Major semi-final and cracking the top-20.
Draper conquered the ATP 500 event in Vienna and gathered a boost ahead of 2025. The Briton experienced a setback in December during the off-season, injuring his hip and staying at home instead of traveling to Spain to train with Carlos Alcaraz.
Jack missed the United Cup and kicked off the new season at the Australian Open. He had to dig deep in the first three rounds, overcoming two sets to one deficit and notching five-setter triumphs. Treating hip tendonitis with painkillers, the Briton had nothing left in the tank for the second week.
He retired against Alcaraz in the fourth round and stayed away from the court until Doha. Jack reached the final, battling hard but falling to Andrey Rublev in three sets. Heading to Indian Wells without physical issues and with confidence, Draper performed at his best in the desert!
A left-hander ousted six rivals in style, dropping one set and besting Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune en route to his career-best moment. Jack is ready for more in the upcoming months, chasing notable trophies and even higher ranking positions.
