The March 19 episode of AEW Dynamite was quite a show for the company. The Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Omaha, Nebraska saw quite a Dynamite this week. That included a rare World Title match.
During this weeks AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley defended the AEW World Championship against Cope in a Street Fight. The intense showdown promises to deliver chaos as Moxley puts his title on the line.
This match went on the third of the night, which stacked the first half of the show in a huge way. The AEW World Title match went on after Mercedes Mone retained the TBS Title.
It was certainly an interesting decision as this match started at the 9:00 PM EST hour, making it dead in the middle of the show. Fans were still more than ready for the match to go down.
This match got started during the entrance as Adam Copeland jumped Jon Moxley during his entrance music. We never heard the Rated R Superstars entrance as he and Moxley battled backstage in a truck to start off the match. Then things spilled out onto the concrete floor backstage. They kept fighting as the two brawled down a hallway that led to the arena.
When they finally got to the arena, the two brawled all over the ringside area. The street fight was brutal as neither side wanted to give the other any leeway. Then they ended up going through the crowd again as the match continued, which resulted in them eventually returning to ringside as they brawled around the building.
This contest stretched through a commercial break as Mox and Cope continued beating each other in picture-in-picture. Neither man went for a pinfall, as they were only softening up their opponents. When we returned from break, Mox was trying to choke out Cope with a chair in the middle of the ring.
Cope was able to stop Mox from breaking his neck, and they ended up on the top rope, where the former Edge hit the former Dean Ambrose with a superplex. Prince Nana was then seen backstage watching this match, as Swerve Strickland will take on the AEW World Champion at Dynasty.
Then Adam Copeland pulled out Spike, the board with nails in it, from underneath the ring. However, Mox stopped Cope from hitting him with it as he nailed a quick cutter on the WWE Hall of Famer. Then Moxley set up a table that he got from under the ring. He then placed the table against a turnbuckles in the ring. Cope got up and he nailed Mox with Spike in the abs and again across the back. Then he put Spike on the ground and nailed a suplex on Mox on the nails, which stuck in his back. That was very graphic and Mox bled a lot from those puncture wounds after Wheeler Yuta helped take the weapon out of his skin.
Wheeler Yuta jumped in the ring and hit a Psycho Knee on Cope. Then Cope sent Yuta through a table at ringside and Claudio jumped Cope to knock him down at ringside. FTR ran down to help Cope out as well as they nailed everyone of the heels with moves.
The match continued as Mox got to his feet and Cope speared him through the table. Marina Shafir was able to jump in the ring to break up that pinfall, and then Willow Nightingale jumped in the ring to take out Shafir. This match was pure chaos.
Nick Wayne jumped in the ring next to nail a cutter on Cope, and then Mox nailed a Death Rider on Cope to secure the pinfall. This was a brutal match, but Jon Moxley was able to leave with his title.
