Eight years ago, a 21-year-old Kyrgios went toe-to-toe with the former 20-time Grand Slam champion in the 2017 Miami Masters semifinal. And after three tie-breaks and three hours and 15 minutes of grueling play, the Swiss registered a narrow 7-6 (9) 6-7 (9) 7-6 (5) win.

This week, the 2025 Miami Open edition kicked off. On X, one fan thought it would be suitable to recount one of the most thrilling Miami matches in recent history by posting a match highlight.

Reacting to it, the Australian stated: "Ridiculous tennis."

Kyrgios saved match points but destroyed his racket after failing to complete a comeback

In the second-set tie-break, the Australian recovered from a 3-5 deficit and also saved two match points before winning a very tight set to force a decider. In the third-set tie-break, he was 5-4 up and two points away from getting the win but then Federer won the next three points.

Moments after the match, Kyrgios obliterated his racket in frustration.

On the other side, Federer acknowledged the match was quite an experience.

It did feel very good, because you don't very often play three breakers in a match. It's nice to win those and winning breakers is always such a thrill. It's great winning this way, especially because I remember the loss against him a few years ago, It was rough. It was the birthday of my boys. I wasn't with them and had that match, so it was nice to get this one tonight," the Swiss tennis icon said after the match.

After Miami, they met four more times, with Federer winning on all four occasions and finishing with a 6-1 head-to-head against Kyrgios.
