Liverpool have been dealt a major injury blow after it was revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will likely be sidelined until the end of April.
The right-back suffered a high ankle sprain during the Champions League last 16 second leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, subsequently missing the Carabao Cup final loss to Newcastle United last Sunday.
The 26-year-old was omitted from Thomas Tuchel's first England squad as a result of his ankle issue and will be absent for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Albania and Latvia.
Alexander-Arnold won't be available immediately after the March international break, either. While there is no exact timeframe on his return from the treatment room, the defender is hopeful of making his comeback by the end of next month.
Alexander-Arnold's layoff comes at a difficult moment for Liverpool. Not only have they suffered disappointment in Europe and at Wembley Stadium, they are also without their two alternative right-backs, with Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez both sidelined through injury.
Jarell Quansah featured at right-back during the Carabao Cup final and Arne Slot has also mentioned Curtis Jones in relation to the role, although the England international may be needed in midfield following Ryan Gravenberch's recent injury.
With Liverpool hunting down the Premier League title, they will want Alexander-Arnold back as soon as possible. However, should he miss the entirety of April, he would be absent for five matches.
The Scouser is certain to miss the Merseyside derby with Everton on 2 April, with Liverpool facing Fulham, West Ham United, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur before the month is out.
The Reds are currently 12 points clear of chasers Arsenal in second and will want to wrap up the league title as early as possible now they have nothing else to play for in the closing weeks of the campaign.
Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool career could be coming to an end amid intense speculation over a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer, with no inroads made regarding a new contract. A recent report has even suggested that a deal has been all but agreed between him and the Spanish giants.
