AEW Dynamite on March 19 delivered one of the wildest AEW World Title matches in recent memory, but it was a long-teased moment that truly shocked fansand finally made good on years of hardcore wrestling teases.
Jon Moxley defended the AEW World Championship against Adam Copeland (aka Cope) in a brutal Street Fight that started before the bell and didnt slow down for a second. But the real talk coming out of the Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Omaha? Moxley taking a full-on suplex onto a bed of nail-covered spikes. Yeah, it finally happened.
According to Fightful Select, the backstage reaction to the moment was one of complete disbelief, with one source stating there was a lot of disbelief that this finally happened after over a decade of teasing that type of thing on wrestling TV. Fans online echoed that sentiment, with screenshots of Moxleys blood-covered back quickly going viral. The good news? Moxley was said to be okay after the spot.
The chaos in the match was nonstop. Cope jumped Moxley during his entrance, and the two battled all over the backstage area before finally entering the ring. Thats where things went off the rails. The Rated R Superstar hit Mox with Spikea board filled with nailsbefore suplexing him onto it. The nails stuck in Moxs skin and left him bleeding, with Wheeler Yuta eventually helping to pull them out of his back.
The brawl turned into a full-on locker room war, with interference from Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, FTR, Marina Shafir, Willow Nightingale, and even Nick Wayne. It ended with Moxley hitting the Death Rider on Cope for the win, but no one left that ring unscathed.
While Mox retained the title and will move on to face Swerve Strickland at Dynasty, fans will likely be talking about the spike moment for a long time. It was one of the most graphic visuals AEW has ever aired on televisionand the kind of thing fans have been waiting to see from Moxley since his WWE departure.
Was the spike suplex too far, or exactly what fans wanted? And who should be next to step into the chaos with Moxley? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know how you felt about this all-out war.
