AEWs next big event, Dynasty, is just over two weeks away, but according to the latest report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, ticket sales are moving slower than expectedand thats raising some eyebrows.
With only 4,320 tickets sold for the April 6 pay-per-view at Temple Universitys Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, AEWs first major show in the city still has thousands of seats to fill.
Dave Meltzer noted that unlike previous AEW events, most of the Dynasty card remains a mystery, which could be hurting sales. So far, only three matches are confirmed: Jon Moxley vs. Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Title, Kenny Omega vs. Mike Bailey vs. Ricochet for the International Title, and Toni Storm vs. Megan Bayne for the AEW Womens Title.
Potential matches like Adam Page vs. MJF, Adam Cole vs. Daniel Garcia for the TNT Title, and Chris Jericho vs. Bandido for the ROH Title are still unannounced. Meanwhile, stars like Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, and Kyle Fletcher remain absent from any current storyline tied to the event.
To make matters worse, fans in Philly say theres been little to no local promotionflyers, posters, ads nothing. Meltzer added that the cheapest ticket is $30, but that hasnt been enough to create the kind of buzz youd expect for an AEW pay-per-view, especially one in a wrestling-rich city like Philadelphia.
With time ticking, AEW might need to pull out some major surprises or announce more matches fast to avoid an underwhelming turnout.
