Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is waiting for Barcelona to approach the Premier League champions elect over a summer transfer, reports in Spain claim.

The 28-year-old has been of Arne Slot's most consistent performers in a campaign that, barring a late disaster, will land Liverpool their second Premier League title in five years.

Diaz has shown tremendous versatility for Liverpool, switching from the left flank to play an unfamiliar central role at times, and has regularly handed Darwin Nunez a watching brief from the substitutes bench while Diogo Jota has invariably battled injury.

The Colombian has scored 13 goals in all competitions matching his efforts from last season but continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona as he heads towards the final two years of his Liverpool contract.

It's unclear whether or not Diaz would be made available, given the uncertainty over the futures of Nunez, Jota and the soon to be out of contract Mohamed Salah, but a decision may need to be made if the former Porto star indicates a desire to seek a fresh challenge.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, citing sources close to the player, state that Diaz is waiting to find out whether or not Barcelona are prepared to make an offer this summer, suggesting it's his dream to seal a move to Camp Nou.

Diaz is prepared to wait as long as it takes, the report continues, and notes that Liverpool's desire to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United could force the club's hand an asking price of well over 100m likely to mean that sales will be needed to ensure the club comply with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

The Saudi Pro League are also thought to have an eye on Diaz's situation, knowing they could offer a bumper tax-free contract that would blow both Liverpool and Barcelona out of the water when it comes to wages.

Elsewhere, Liverpool's fading title rivals Arsenal have also been linked with a shock move for Diaz though those particular reports in Spain may need to be taken with a rather large pinch of salt.
