Alexander Zverev started the 2025 Miami Open in a very convincing and brilliant way, giving British ace Jacob Fearley no chance in the first match on the Hard Rock Stadium. The latter hoped to repeat David Goffin's feat against Carlos Alcaraz on the same court, but the world number 2 played a much better match than the Spanish champion and prevailed in two sets (6-2 6-4).

The German player is trying to regain serenity and confidence after recent disappointments, which were generated by the heavy defeat against Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final. Since that moment, the champion from Hamburg has struggled greatly to play his best tennis and his results have been literally disastrous in the last month.

Sascha had surprised everyone by choosing to play three tournaments in South America (Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro on red clay, Acapulco on hard court), with the goal of winning titles and reducing the gap from Sinner in the ATP ranking (meanwhile, the Italian ace was suspended for three months).

Against all odds, Zverev was prematurely eliminated in all tournaments played in February and his record became more negative still after he was beaten by Tallon Griekspoor in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000.

Sascha's new milestone

Due to Alcaraz's shocking lossagainst Goffin yesterday, Sascha remained the only player who can still overtake Jannik before his return in May.

His performance against Fearnley was certainly the most convincing since the AO, but it will have to be seen if the German will maintain this level in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Alexander won his 145th match in Masters 1000s, overtaking his compatriot Tommy Haas and becoming the German player with the most tournament wins in this category.

It is safe to consider the world No.2 as the top favorite to triumph in Florida, not forgetting Novak Djokovic who is going in search of the 100th title of his legendary career.

The Serbian has triumphed six times in Miami, but it would be his first time at the new venue.
