Vince McMahon mightve been out of WWE in 2023, but he was reportedly still calling big plays behind the curtainincluding one that derailed Finn Balors WrestleMania moment.

Fightful Select reports that Balor was originally set to defeat Edge (Cope) at WrestleMania 39, in what wouldve been a huge win for the Demon persona and a satisfying payoff to his Judgment Day storyline. But in typical Vince fashion, he stepped in late and changed the finish.

McMahon wanted Cope to pick up the victory, one insider claimed, even though Adam Copeland himself pushed for Balor to win. Creative sources told Fightful the original plan was in motion until McMahon made the call, and theres no confirmation if Balor or Edge were even told about the change until the day of the show.

The match itself ended with Cope winning in a brutal Hell in a Cell match, leaving fans scratching their heads over why WWE chose to have Balor lose in his most protected gimmick.
