Ortiz entered the third round one shot behind Reed, but his eagle on the eighth hole, along with three birdies, allowed him to climb to first place with a 16-under par score of 194, the same as the American.

Reed completed the third round with a 67, with six birdies and three bogeys, keeping pace with the Mexican to bring excitement to the final round tomorrow.

If he wins the title, it would be the Mexican's third major victory, having won in Houston in 2020 on the PGA Tour and repeating it in this city in June of last year, albeit in a tournament organized by the LIV Saudi Arabian Tour, to which the 33-year-old from Guadalajara belongs and is ranked 387th in the world.

Behind Ortiz and Reed are Germany's Dominic Foos and American Jason Kokrak, at -13, while Australia's Lucas Hervert is in fifth place at -11.

Sergio Garca dropped from the lead after finishing the third round with a 69, leaving him at -10, six shots behind the leaders, two more than he had after the first two sessions, tied with Zimbabwean Kieran Vincent.

Colombian Sebastin Muoz also has a tough time winning, heading into the final round at -9, while Spaniard David Puig, another player on the LIV circuit, is at -3.

The unique feature of the tournament in Macau, the former Portuguese colony that came under Chinese administration in 1999, is that it awards three direct places to participate in the British Open, which will take place from July 17 to 20.

Sergio Garca Fernndez is a Spanish golfer. Nicknamed El Nio and a professional since 1999, he is a member of the PGA Tour and the European Tour. After his victory at the 2008 HSBC Champions he reached the position of No. 2 in the world behind Tiger Woods, and is currently No. 128 in the world.
