John Cena might not be talking muchbut he sure is posting. Just days after SmackDown in Bologna, Italy, the WWE legend and current top contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship took to Instagram with another one of his infamous cryptic uploads. And this ones got fans reading between the lines in a big way.
Cena posted a photo of Ron Burgundythe egotistical anchorman played by Will Ferrell in Anchormanwith the quote I love Scotch. Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch. The image alone wouldnt usually cause a stir, except this isnt just any week.
The most straightforward interpretation? Cenas just hyping his appearance on the March 24 episode of RAW, which goes down live from Glasgow, Scotland. Scotch, Scotlandit lines up.
But this is John Cena were talking about. His Instagram bio literally reads: These images will be posted without explanation, for your interpretation. Enjoy. And the WWE Universe is doing exactly that.
Some fans believe the post is Cena poking fun at himself, using Burgundys love of Scotch as a metaphor for dealing with his toxic relationship with the fans. In his recent heel promo on RAW, Cena claimed: Youve bullied me, mocked me, tried to cancel me. Ive had enough.
Others, however, are pointing fingers at something (or someone) else: Cody Rhodes.
In Anchorman, Ron Burgundy gets replaced as the main news anchor by Veronica Corningstone. Sound familiar? Cenas now facing the reality that Cody Rhodes is the new face of WWE. The timing of this post has fans thinking Cena might be taking a passive-aggressive swipe at being replaced on top. Is Cena channeling Burgundys ego in a subtle way to throw shade at the American Nightmare?
Or maybe, he just really likes Anchorman.
Either way, Cenas Instagram remains the gift that keeps on givingif youre willing to do some decoding.
