Coco Gauff admits she would pick another Grand Slam title over the world No. 1 ranking at the moment but adds that her preference maybe would have been different if she was a multiple Major winner without the top ranking on her resume.

After lifting her first Slam title at the 2023 US Open, the American also did well in her next two Majors, reaching back-to-back semifinals at the 2024 Australian Open and the French Open. But in her last three Majors played, the world No. 3 didn't get her desired results - she exited last year's Wimbledon and the US Open in the round-of-16 while her run at this year's Australian Open ended in the quarterfinal.

In the meantime, Gauff also achieved a career-high ranking of No. 2 last June.

Gauff on why she prefers a Slam title No. 2 over the world No. 1 spot

I prefer another Grand Slam, I've always said that. I don't know, I feel like people remember you more for the titles you've won than for your world No. 1 ranking. Obviously, if I could have both, that would be great too," the 21-year-old explained at the Miami Open.

"Personally, after having won one, I would love to win another in the future. Now, if I had already won four and still hadn't reached No. 1, then maybe the story would be different. But having only one, I would like to have another to strengthen my record a little more.

Following her US Open triumph, Gauff highlighted that she was "hungry for more." But as mentioned above, she has gone five Grand Slam tournaments without landing a title.

Since the Australian Open, the American has struggled with inconsistency and hasn't played her best. However, there is still a lot of time left before the French Open and she also appears to be picking up some momentum in Miami, where she won her opening two matches to set up a round-of-16 meeting against Magda Linette.
