WWEs decision to bring in Tony Hinchcliffe to host the Roast of WrestleMania after Night Two of WrestleMania 41 didnt exactly sit well with fans online but internally, its not raising many eyebrows.
The controversial comedian sparked major outrage in late 2024 after making racist jokes during a campaign rally for WWE Hall of Famer and presidential candidate Donald Trump. Hinchcliffes remarks at Madison Square Garden included inflammatory lines like calling Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean, suggesting Latinos loved making babies, referring to Palestinians as rock-throwers, and leaning into tired stereotypes about Black people and watermelons. The fallout was loud but it looks like WWE is tuning it out.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, WWE talent isnt losing sleep over the booking. Honestly, there were some eye rolls but most people in WWE just dont care, to be honest with you, Sapp said in a recent Q&A. And Tony knows a lot of those people in WWE and they get along with them. I havent heard the same outrage internally as I have online.
The Roast of WrestleMania is set to go down at the BleauLive Theater in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 20 at 10 PM PT shortly after the conclusion of Night Two of WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium. The non-televised event will feature appearances from top WWE names like Sami Zayn, The Miz, Braun Strowman, and Paul Heyman alongside Hinchcliffe.
Despite the uproar on social media, it seems WWE is brushing it off and moving forward with the event as planned a sign that the company is either confident in its direction or simply ignoring public concern.
