Paula Badosa sounded crushed when issuing an injury update following her Miami Open withdrawal as the 27-year-old confirmed that she was dealing with back pain again and preparing for another recovery process.

After retiring injured in Merida and pulling out of Indian Wells due to the same back issue that nearly forced her into early retirement last year, the world No. 11 was fit enough to return to action at the Miami Open and win her opening two matches against Victoria Mboko and Clara Tauson. But after requiring two medical timeouts against Tauson, the Spaniard wasn't even able to take on Alexandra Eala in her round-of-16 match.

Now, Badosa is set to miss some time.

"Hello everyone, as you know | had to withdraw from Miami and the upcoming tournaments. It's very sad and tough to deal with the pain and specially stopping and coming back every single time. Now it's time to go through recovery process again... Hopefully I will be back soon," the former world No. 2 wrote on her Instagram Story.

The Charleston tournament confirms Badosa is out

In each of the past four seasons, the Spanish tennis star started her clay season early in Charleston. But this year, she won't be competing on the green clay of Charleston.

"I'm very sorry I can't make it this year. I have very good memories from this amazing tournament. See you next year," the 2021 Charleston semifinalist said in a statement.

On April 22nd, the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid is starting. That's one of Badosa's favorite tournaments in the calendar and she will probably target to be ready to come back to action in front of her home fans.
