Rory McIlroy has been clear since day one of LIV Golf's creation that he doesn't want to be a part of this story. The 35-year-old golfer later softened his stance, but even then he had no intention of joining the project. The situation on the golf scene is now much calmer, given that the two Tours could reach a final deal and act as one body.
However, while guesting on Stick To Football, the experienced golfer answered the host's question about how much the signing on fee would be to make the move to LIV. Rory answered clearly:
"It depends. I don't know, but I mean, there's numbers being touted for Jon Rahm upwards of three, four, five hundred million dollars (230m - 380m).
That's what the numbers are." - he said, as quoted by MIRROR.
LIV's offer
The famous golfer revealed that he never had an offer from the controversial Tour, as he already had clear views. From the first day of the creation of this league, Rory was clear that he did not want to join such a project. However, he now has respect for them, but seems to still have the same convictions about crossing over to the other side.
"No, I've never had an offer. I just didn't engage, cause it's something that.. .and I think at this point I've pretty much set my stall out."
When asked by Jamie Carragher if he regrets it now, Rory McIlroy pointed out that such things happen in every sport. Money has become the primary means for many, it seems, and even the biggest stars of this sport cannot resist huge numbers.
"It's happening in everything, right? Obviously, with all the stuff that's happening with football, F1."- he said.
The 35-year-old stressed that PIF is entering sports and doing incredible things in the world of sports, just like the UAE did before, as well as some other countries.
