Ryan Gerard, a 25-year-old American wowed the public after the first round of the Texas Children's Houston Open, opening the tournament with a 5-under par 65 in difficult conditions. After the first round, he shared first place with three other golfers, but his comments after the first round drew special attention.

Namely, when asked by a journalist about his main focus during the rain on the course, the young golfer said that he doesn't like to hold an umbrella, because it makes his hands tired. The American explains his playing style during the rain, and the way he adapts to such conditions, which can be an obstacle even for the most experienced.
"So like I'm weird, I don't like holding the umbrella because I feel like my arms get fatigued and I stand over a shot and I feel like I hit it weird," said Gerard, as quoted by Golf Magic.
"So I kind of just wear the rain jacket and try and not get the grips wet.
If I can do that and just pick quality targets and try and just make solid swings to the targets, whatever happens from there is kind of up to the skid or the rain or the water droplets or whatever it could be.

So I just try to pick good targets and make quality swings to 'em, and pretty happy with how it went."
Dylan Frittelli reacts
His comments caused an avalanche of reactions on social media, mostly from fans who find the young golfer's statements comical. His colleague, Dylan Frittelli, reacted via social media, sending a clear message to Gerard:
"Do you even lift bro? It's only water at the end of the day."- he said.
However, Gerard experienced a huge decline the next day, and now he is currently T4, with two strokes behind the leader Scottie Scheffler, who after an incredible day showed that he is just getting into the right rhythm.
We'll see if Gerard can find the right rhythm going forward.
