Mercedes Mon isnt just chasing gold anymoreshes now eyeing the Owen Hart Cup.
On the March 29 episode of AEW Collision, Mon stepped into the ring against Robyn Renegade in Robyns debut matchupand made a statement in her first face-to-face with one-half of the rumored Renegade alliance. After putting Robyn away in a solid match, Mercedes grabbed the mic for a post-match interview with Tony Schiavone and dropped a bombshell.
Im entering the Owen Hart Tournament, she said confidently, before making her goal crystal clear. And Im going to win it and then Im coming for the AEW Womens World Championship.
Schiavone also announced that rising star Billie Starkz would join the tournament as well, but Mercedes didnt seem too concerned. That confidence didnt last long though.
Seconds later, Athena made her presence knownstorming the ring and confronting Mon. The ROH Womens Champion didnt wait for a handshake or promo segment. She just put Mercedes down hard and left her scrambling outside the ring, furious and visibly shaken.
The confrontation may have spoiled the celebration, but it definitely lit the fuse on a potential showdown between two of AEWs most decorated women. Mon has already racked up 300 days as TBS Champion and captured gold in NJPW and RevProbut now she has to survive the Owen Hart Tournament and keep her head on a swivel for Athena.
